Job Description

We are recruiting a Carer (waking night) for our complex in Streatham.

The salary for our Carer is up to £10.00 per hour DOE

You must have a good basic standard of education, QCF level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care or working towards this. This is DESIRABLE but not necessary.

Our Carer will be required to undertake all duties in a manner consistent with the principle of partnership with service users, their families or carers and any other people closely involved, particularly having regard for decision making, planning, review and appraisals.

Our Carer must provide care and support required for each service user placed at the home, exercising the care that a good parent or close relative would expect, providing a safe environment promoting service user's development and protecting them from harm.

Our Carer must give special attention to the needs of service users during night time hours and, in particular, to support those service users who may experience difficulties between these hours, but when they are sleeping, to attend to domestic and/or administrative duties, and any other allocated

Our Carer will work closely with all Managers of the organisaton to achieve the highest possible quality of care for service users.

KEY DUTIES FOR OUR CARER ARE:


  • To ensure the provision of a safe, secure and homely environment for all service users.
  • To assist in the implementation of care plans for each service user and to attend meetings and reviews to develop and progress those care plans as the service user's needs change.
  • To follow agreed procedures with regards to medication and health care.
  • To follow agreed procedures with regards to service users who have absconded or missing from the home.
  • To undertake allocated tasks in the physical, emotional and psychological care of the service users in the home to the highest possible standard.
  • To assist service users in personal care as far as this is necessary at night and in the morning.
  • To check, mend and launder Service Users clothing, recording and requirements in the message book.
  • To adhere to the Health and Safety policy of the home, and carry out duties with regard to the home fire regulations.
  • To work with supervisors and managers to maximise strengths and minimise areas of need at both individual and team level.
  • To make accurate records concerning each Service User in sufficient detail, for its significance and use, and complete other general records and documentations in relation to the work of the home.
  • To ensure that all records on service users are stored using accepted and agreed formats, systems and procedures, having regard for the complete confidentiality of these records.

  • You may be asked to work at other homes within the organization from time to time, as required.

    Knowledge, skills and aptitude

    Knowledge of service issues relating to adults with learning disabilities and the ability to plan and organise activities for and with people.

    The ability to communicate effectively with service users, relatives, staff team, professionals and members of the public, and to carry out intimate personal care tasks.

    The ability to support service users in carrying out ordinary household duties.

    The ability to work with people who sometimes display physically, or emotionally challenging behaviors and the ability to work with people with limited communicative skills.

    The ability to follow a consistent programme in tandem with the rest of the staff team.

    Awareness of Health & Safety.

    Knowledge of Autistic Spectrum Disorders and the Triad of Impairments - DESIRABLE.

    Ability to work with multi-media to aid communication and understanding of service users - DESIRABLE.

    Ability to develop art, music, cooking and other creative programmes for service users - DESIRABLE.

    Willingness to work flexible hours (24 hour shift system including weekends and Bank Holidays).
